The Basics
-
Solid wood furniture is crafted from a single piece of natural timber, offering unmatched durability, reparability, and unique grain patterns. Manufactured wood (like particleboard or MDF) is a composite material made from wood scraps and adhesives, making it less durable and difficult to repair. We only work with high-quality solid wood to ensure our pieces last a lifetime.
-
The cost of handcrafted furniture reflects the value of premium, responsibly sourced materials, the time and skill of a master artisan, and the custom nature of the work. You are investing in a piece built to last for generations, unlike "fast furniture" which is designed to be replaced every few years.
-
Our custom order process begins with a consultation to understand your vision, space, and needs. We then provide a quote based on the design and material that will best fit your vision. Once the design is approved, we require a 50% non-refundable deposit and add you into our que to begin the crafting process. We'll keep you updated with progress photos so you can see your piece come to life.
Materials and Finishes
-
We work with a variety of high-quality hardwoods, including but not limited to walnut, cherry, maple, and oak. We select each piece of wood for its unique color, grain, and character to ensure a beautiful and durable final product.
-
The best wood for your piece depends on a few factors, including your desired aesthetic, the intended use of the furniture, and your budget. For example, walnut offers a rich, dark color, while maple is lighter and very durable. We are happy to guide you through the pros and cons of each wood type to help you make the perfect choice.
-
We use eco-friendly and non-toxic finishes that protect the wood while highlighting its natural beauty. Our finishes are durable and safe for use in any home, including those with children and pets. We prioritize finishes with low or zero VOCs (volatile organic compounds) to ensure good indoor air quality.
Ordering and Timeline
-
The lead time for a custom piece varies depending on the complexity of the design and our current workload. Typically, a custom order can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months. We will provide you with an estimated timeline during your initial consultation.
-
We require a 50% non-refundable deposit to begin work on your custom piece. The remaining balance is due upon completion, before the piece is shipped or delivered.
-
For clients within our primary service zone, your piece is delivered not by a freight carrier, but by the craftsman who built it. We handle placement, assembly, and packaging removal, ensuring a flawless reveal.
Care And Maintenance
-
Solid wood furniture is easy to care for! We recommend dusting regularly with a soft cloth. For spills, wipe immediately with a damp cloth. We will provide detailed care instructions with your order, including recommendations on how to maintain the finish and protect it.
-
Yes, solid wood is a living material that will age beautifully over time. It may develop a richer patina, and some woods, like cherry, will darken with exposure to light. This natural evolution is part of the charm of owning a solid wood piece.
